like shinji comes into a bakery all self-conscious and planning to just look around for a little bit because he’s afraid of being judged but kaworu ends up talking to him for a while and before shinji knows it he’s been charmed into buying a load of fattening, sugary stuff
and he gets home and tries to act like it isn’t really fucking delicious and he isn’t still thinking about how nice and handsome the baker was.
and then he can’t help himself and he just keeps coming back over the coming weeks.
kaworu always calls him his “favorite customer” with this tone and expression so lovely that shinji can’t help but start to believe him.
and kaworu actually does mean it too. like he thinks everything about shinji is so cute and wonderful and he sneaks him free stuff and tells him jokes and funny stories just because he’s like addicted to seeing shinji smile.
shinji is still self conscious because he’s been avoiding the scale and in his head he feels like he must’ve gained 300 pounds from all these bakery visits, but he likes kaworu so much he can’t stop.
and then one day after closing kaworu is like “you’re not my favorite customer anymore” and shinji freaks out and immediately starts thinking that it must be because he’s gotten too fat for him but then kaworu continues “because now you’ve graduated to being my favorite person.” and shinji’s squishy lil cheeks are practically glowing as kaworu gives him his phone number and email
